Inter Milan’s crowning – the long-awaited title in the Italian Football League – was met with great celebrations by fans, which witnessed the violation of precautionary measures to combat the emerging Corona virus.
About 30,000 fans gathered in Milan city center after securing the title on Sunday, as Inter described it as “responsible celebrations” despite the scenes of fans not wearing masks or respecting social distancing measures in the Lombardy region.
Inter crowned the 19th league title, after Atalanta, his only competitor, drew with Sassuolo with a goal to match, trailing Inter by 13 points before 4 rounds of the season.
The crowd’s celebrations caused harsh criticism from Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala, at a time when many citizens used their accounts on social media to complain about allowing the masses to celebrate despite the pandemic, while others are forced to stay home.
Italy witnessed 121,000 deaths due to Corona, and Lombardy’s losses were heavy due to the pandemic.
The President of the Region Attilio Fontana expressed his hope that the celebrations of the Inter fans would not cause an increase in the number of infections.
