Washington expresses its concerns about the activities of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Gulf region

US Defense Department spokesman John Kirby said that Washington has made clear to the Iranian government – through diplomatic channels – its concerns about the naval activities of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Kirby pointed out that the Revolutionary Guard and the Iranian Navy have two different structures in the chain of command, explaining that the US Navy’s dealings with its Iranian counterpart are professional.

Kirby added that there are direct contacts with the Iranian Navy, as warnings were directed to it on the radio, but she did not listen to it, and described the behavior of Iranian ships as insecure and does not contribute to enhancing security and stability in the Gulf.

The Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, said a few days ago that Iranian boats approached US Navy ships in the Gulf region recently in a provocative and insecure manner, stressing that they are taking appropriate measures to protect themselves.

On the other hand, the commander of the naval forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Ali Reza Tangsiri, said that they are closely monitoring all movements of what he called “enemies” in the region and the Gulf waters.

Tangsiri pointed out that all ships – including the US military – are obliged to inform them of their identity and their course of movement before entering the Strait of Hormuz
