The Minister of Sports in the Maldives asked the Indian team of Bangalore to leave the country after some players violated the protocols of “Covid-19” before facing Eagles in the AFC Cup qualifiers.
The Minister of Youth and Sports in the Maldives Ahmed Makhlouf took to Twitter to ask the Indian team to leave the country for violating the health rules before the match tomorrow, Tuesday.
Makhlouf wrote, “It is not acceptable for the Bangalore club to violate the strict health rules and he must leave the team immediately, because we cannot tolerate this situation.”
He added, “We have informed the Football Association in the Maldives that the match cannot be held and we have asked him to arrange procedures for the departure of the Bangalore team, and we will conduct more contacts with the AFC to postpone the group matches.”
The AFC confirmed, at a later time, the postponement of the AFC Cup matches in the South, which were scheduled in the Maldives.
The Group D matches were to be held in Malé, the capital of the Maldives, between 14 and 21 May, and the AFC did not set new dates for the matches.
“The clubs that have traveled to the Maldives must arrange return trips to their countries and abide by the health and travel standards of the Covid-19 pandemic,” the AFC said in a statement.
“At the same time, the AFC continues to communicate with the rest of the other clubs participating in the group and the officials who have not yet gone to the Maldives to cancel the travel arrangements.”
Earlier, Group X matches in Hong Kong were postponed from May to June due to difficulties in dealing with “Covid-19”.
The 2020 edition of the Federation Cup was canceled due to the virus and quarantine rules in many countries, making travel nearly impossible.
