On Thursday, Twitter introduced the “Tip Jar” or “Tip Box” feature, a new feature that makes it easier for users to send money to their favorite creators on the micro-blogging service.
“This is the first step in our work to create new ways for people to receive and show support on Twitter with money,” the company said – in its blog. Users will be able to link their Twitter accounts with “Tebjar” to money transfer applications, such as the “Bandcamp” or “Cash App” or “Patreon” or “PayPal” or Venmo. Twitter will not take any part of the money sent through this feature.
This feature enables those who use Twitter in English – on the operating systems “iOS” and “Android” (Android) – to start sending money through “Tebjar”, starting yesterday.
Some users will be able to add a “tab” to their profile to start collecting tips. Twitter said this includes creators, journalists, experts and nonprofits.
The new feature comes as part of a broader effort by the company to build more features to increase the Twitter user base to 315 million daily active users by the end of 2023. Earlier this week, the company also announced the launch of the “Spaces” service, which is A feature that allows users to join virtual rooms, where they can participate in real-time voice chats with others.
The “Tab Jar” advantage comes after a harsh week for Twitter, which has seen its share drop more than 17% since April 29, when it announced its first-quarter earnings.
