Vienna has witnessed meetings between the Iranian delegation and the delegations of European countries participating in the Vienna negotiations on the nuclear agreement, and working groups are continuing their discussions on detailed issues, amid reports of slow progress.
The chief Iranian negotiator, Abbas Araghchi, held meetings with the representative of the European Union and heads of European delegations in Vienna, as well as another meeting with the Austrian Foreign Minister, during which the negotiations were discussed, according to the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Meanwhile, the three working groups emerging from the negotiations of the parties to the nuclear deal in Vienna continue their discussions on the detailed issues.
A source close to the meetings confirmed slow progress, indicating that the complexities of the file did not allow rapid progress.
These meetings come after the US delegation announced that Washington was unwilling to lift sanctions not related to the Iranian nuclear file.
Earlier, State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Vienna’s indirect negotiations with Iran had gone a long way, explaining that Washington’s assessment indicates that the Iranians have a better understanding of what they must do to resume their compliance with the nuclear deal.
In turn, the director of the US Defense Intelligence Agency, Scott Perior, said, “Iran is the main challenge to his country’s interests in the Middle East,” during a hearing of the Armed Forces Committee in the US Senate.
