Israel announced today, Tuesday, that the military operation in the Gaza Strip will continue for days to come, threatening that the next step is to cut off electricity to Gaza, while the occupation forces have continued to bomb separate areas of the Strip by air, land and sea since dawn today. On the other hand, the Palestinian resistance responded with rocket barrages targeting a number of Israeli cities, towns and settlements.
In statements to him today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “We have given back to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Islamic Jihad years back, and the process continues no matter how long it takes,” hinting that “the equation will change afterwards.”
In the same context, the Israeli Minister of Intelligence indicated that “the next step is to cut off the electricity supply to the Gaza Strip.”
In turn, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said in a statement that “the fighting will not stop until we reach a comprehensive and long-term calm.”
A spokesman for the occupation also announced that the army will continue its operations in Gaza in line with its list of targets for the next 24 hours, adding in statements to Military Radio, “We are not talking about a ceasefire, we are focusing on shooting.”
The spokesman admitted that 11 Israelis had been killed as a result of rocket attacks from Gaza since the beginning of the escalation, and that 3300 rockets were launched from Gaza, most of them from the northern Gaza Strip, 90% of which were intercepted by Iron Dome, stressing, “Our goal is to weaken Hamas’s military capabilities.”
“As long as the Hamas and Islamic Jihad attacks continue, we will not discuss a de-escalation,” he said, noting that they possess about 12,000 rockets, which would be difficult to completely destroy.
In contrast to the direct Israeli threat to continue the aggression, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades – the military wing of Hamas – said that it bombed a military mob near the settlement of “Nir Am”, adjacent to the Gaza Strip, with mortar shells.
Videos were broadcasted showing the effects of missile strikes from Gaza targeting Beersheba, and other clips of transporting the wounded in the bombing of Eshkol to the Israeli “Soroka” hospital.
Al-Qassam Brigades said, “The missile strike that we launched against Eshkol that killed two was with Q20 (Q20) missiles.”
In the context, Israeli media reported that the army had asked residents of the Eshkol Regional Council to enter the shelters and fortified areas, and to stop the movement of trains between Tel Aviv and Beersheba from seven in the evening due to the security situation.
For his part, Al-Jazeera correspondent said that missiles fell on the Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing in the northern Gaza Strip, noting that sirens sounded in Ashkelon with the Palestinian factions launching a new missile.
Raids since dawn
Earlier today, Tuesday, local sources said that the occupation fighters launched more than 70 air strikes in the northern Gaza Strip since the early morning hours, and the army confirmed that it had begun carrying out attacks targeting the Rimal neighborhood in Gaza City.
Al-Jazeera correspondent reported that this morning, an Israeli raid targeted a site of the Palestinian factions east of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, and an apartment in a building near the headquarters of UNRWA and the headquarters of universities in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli aircraft also launched violent raids targeting the Ansar government compound in the al-Katibah neighborhood in the west of the Strip at dawn today, and also bombed the upper floors of an apartment building in the Nasr neighborhood in Gaza.
Al-Jazeera correspondent said that about 60 aircraft have fired more than 110 missiles at nearly 65 targets in the Gaza Strip since dawn today.
The continuous Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has resulted in the death of more than 220 Palestinians, including 61 children and 36 women, while about 1,400 people were wounded.
Targeting relief and health institutions
Meanwhile, the Government Information Office in Gaza said that the Israeli occupation army had warned international institutions of its intention to bomb Al-Buraq and Al-Aqsa schools in the Gaza Strip, explaining that these two schools are intended to house families, and that their coordinates are available to the international authorities.
For its part, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) stated that more than 38,000 people have sought refuge in its schools in the Gaza Strip to escape the Israeli bombardment.
The UNRWA spokesman had told Al Jazeera that the agency’s centers could accommodate 50,000 people, but the numbers might exceed that.
On the medical level, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Ashraf Al-Kidwa, said that the ministry is facing a real crisis in relation to medicines, medical consumables and ambulances, and is in immediate need of international relief aid.
Al-Kidwa added that the Israeli violations and targeting have so far affected 21 health institutions, which has hindered the work of these institutions and impeded the access of ambulances to the targeted areas.
For its part, the Israeli occupation forces continued to tighten security measures in all areas in anticipation of clashes at contact points in the West Bank and inside the Green Line areas.
