The Belgian striker apologized to Real Madrid fans after his controversial shot after Real’s exit from the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday in front of English club Chelsea.
Chelsea beat Real Madrid 2-0 yesterday in the second leg of the semi-final, to beat 3-1 in the aggregate score. And Hazard – who moved from Chelsea to Real in 2019 – failed to leave an imprint of the two matches after returning from injury.
After the final whistle, the cameras captured footage of the Belgian striker congratulating Chelsea players Curt Zuma and Edouard Mendy and laughing with them, and the pictures spread on social media amid criticism from Real Madrid fans and accusations of disrespecting the team and its fans.
“Someone should explain to me because I do not understand,” wrote former Real Madrid winger Javier Balboa, while analysts and former players expressed their surprise at Hazard’s behavior, and former Liverpool player Don Hutchinson said he saw “strange scenes” and could not have expected similar behavior. From Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the title 4 times with Real Madrid.
Hazard expressed his regret through his Instagram account, saying, “I’m sorry. I read a lot of opinions about me today, I never meant to offend Real Madrid fans.”

“I always dreamed of playing for Real Madrid, and I came to win. The season is not over, and now we all have to fight for the Spanish League title,” he added.
Hazard’s career has been damaged by injuries since his arrival in Spain two seasons ago in the most expensive deal in Real Madrid’s history, and he has not appeared at his best level.
