If the Corona pandemic has almost completely paralyzed the Arab cinema movement, it has, on the other hand, released the hand of the television drama that was distinguished during the current Ramadan by a huge amount of production.
The “Observatory” program (3/3/2021) followed the nature of the contents of these series. Despite this abundance, which covered large areas of broadcasting on public and private channels, the contents did not go far from the usual.
The conditions of the night curfew and home quarantine have increased the rates of follow-up of Ramadan series and programs, and it seemed that the Arab drama had succeeded in facing the Corona crisis and recovering its health again.
Regarding the abundance of production, artistic critic Suleiman Bakhti explained that this year is different, because it is two years’ production that merged in one year, because last year many drama productions stopped due to the Corona virus, and therefore it mixed with Ramadan series for this year.
Many of the works were subjected to severe criticism from specialists, who saw them as a perpetuation of the culture of violence, and a shallow treatment of recurring issues.
Bakhti considered that it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the Ramadan series reflects Arab reality and issues, as well as Arab cultural identity, rather than running after the profits and the percentage of views achieved by these series.
On the other hand, some serious and profound works appeared, which were highly viewed, and were highly appreciated in writing, performance and direction.
Among them was the Tunisian series “Harka” (irregular migration), which created almost unanimity in the Tunisian street on the supremacy of this work in the Ramadan drama race, as it was characterized by an artistic plot that plunged into a painful social reality that tells of death boat trips towards the European dream.
The observatory program also followed the following topics: India in the storm of the pandemic .. Record numbers in every direction, the performance of the Indian media is subject to criticism and question. And the path to minds passes through video games – the recruitment method favored by the Pentagon and reserved for lawmakers.
