Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba said that those who obstructed the permit to land a plane carrying parliamentarians at Sirte airport were the mercenaries who were revealed by intelligence information to be the Russian “Wagner” forces.
Speaking to the “Without Borders” program (5/5/2021), he considered that the Libyan people reject any unregulated foreign presence in Libya, noting that the current situation is very sensitive, but the main goal of the government is to remove foreign forces from Libya.
On dealing with the retired Major General Khalifa Haftar, Dabaiba explained that if Haftar belongs to the military establishment, he must follow it, stressing that no country can be established without an army, and people do not represent anything in exchange for the unification of the army and the country.
He also indicated that there is no information about a military mobilization for the sake of war, and the government supports those who want to build the country, its security and stability, but whoever wants war is the enemy of the Libyan people, and Haftar must choose his hand and classify himself.
Stop the war
He also added that the government’s first goal is to stop the war that has lasted for more than 10 years, welcoming on his part the security cooperation with Egypt in securing the borders, considering that Egypt is a strategic country for Libya, and there is a noticeable change in its stance towards the parties in the Libyan crisis.
As for the Turkish-Libyan relations, he made clear that there is no difference in positions with Turkey, which wants a unified Libya, stressing the need to preserve Libya’s sovereignty and the stability of its decision, and therefore the maritime agreement with Turkey will not be neglected because it benefits the Libyans.
He stressed that government decisions will always be in the interest of Libya, and previous agreements will be adhered to until elections are held and a new government is formed, noting that one of the objectives of the 5 + 5 committee is to expel mercenaries from Sirte.
Regarding the reform of Libya, Dabaiba explained that funds had been established to support the areas affected by the war, in order to get rid of the effects of the war in various Libyan regions, stressing that if there is agreement to adopt the constitution first, then this will be the appropriate solution for Libya.
